Should we embrace AI?

You are probably keenly aware of the developments in AI such as ChatGPT and Google Bard. The general story line around AI evolution is that it will make things better for human beings and for the world. Well...will it? 

Any high school student could now tell ChatGPT to write a summary of a book read, create a written report and do a myriad of other assignments given to students. Is this a good thing? Marketers say that using ChatGPT will make it much easier to create copy and content for websites and blogs. This must be a good thing that will make our lives easier, right? 

What if you told ChatGPT to write a fictional novel based on a great idea. You could sit back, relax and let the AI do all the work. Is efficiency and increased financial gain the true dream of most humans? Is it the end result or is it the journey? For the author, isn't writing the novel the most rewarding part? The writer's block, the indecision, the new ideas, the ongoing changes and rewrites. These are all part of a truly ecstatic creative process. What does it mean when we relinquish this process to AI? 

Is any achievement or production of anything really about the end product? Or is it more about what happens along the way? Many of us believe that we are spiritual beings who have come to earth as a learning experience. Spiritual teachers tell us much of this evolution is also about love. That we have come here to learn more about loving each other and loving ourselves. And it is about the lessons learned through these interactions, friendships, loved ones, husbands, wives, children, parents...

Does AI make this better? With those who would see AI succeed, and no speed is too fast apparently, there seems to be this hyper-focus on efficiency and end-product. 

I encourage you, when making your first steps toward ChatGPT or Bard, to exercise caution. Some aspects could legitimately save time and make life more efficient. But be cautious when approaching these platforms and be skeptical about whether this is something that truly improves our lives.
